Quick Start Guide

Once you have downloaded Hik-Connect or HiLook vision and logged in with the details provided by your installer you will be able to access your new Building Site CCTV System.

LIVE VIEW #

You can live view your system 24/7 via the app. Please note that live viewing uses data!

To Live view tap on the Image location underneath your cameras name or tap on your cameras name eg. BSCCTV #1 Site Name.

On the Live view page you can tap on the camera Icon to take a snapshot of the view which you are currently on. This can then be saved to your phone. You can also tap on the button next to the camera icon (record icon). This will record whatever you are currently watching, this can be saved to your phone. The Microphone button is how you can enter 2 way audio and speak to whoever is onsite.

Under Event Messages you will see the most recent recordings, these will usually be Intrusion Detection events or Sudden Scene Change. By tapping on these events you can playback whatever has been recorded.

Tap on the Playback button to start playing back footage that your camera has saved.

From the playback screen you can playback any recordings which your system has stored. You can also go back by tapping on the date and choosing another date.

To Look at different times, drag the timeline at the bottom of the screen. Wherever there is coloured lines there has been recorded footage.

You can save this footage to your phone by following the instructions above.

ARMING & DISARMING YOUR ONSITE SPEAKER AND STROBE #

Your Building Site CCTV system has a built in siren and strobe which activates when an intrusion occurs. You can disarm this from your app anytime you need. To disarm the system you just need to tap on the bell Icon so that it has a line through it like below. To rearm it you just need to tap it again so the line disappears.

This shows that the Alarm is currently turned on. Meaning that if someone enters the site, the siren and strobe will activate you will also receive a notification.

Alternative way of turning on the alarm.

  1. Tap the 3 dots next to your camera name
  2. Tap on Settings
  3. Tap on Notifications
  4. Tap on Receive events and push notifications, and allow Audio and Strobe Light alarms on device. This should now have a tick next to it.

This shows that the Alarm is currently turned off. Meaning that if someone enters the site, the siren and strobe will not activate you will also not receive a notification until it is turned back on.

Alternative way of turning off the alarm.

  1. Tap the 3 dots next to your camera name
  2. Tap on Settings
  3. Tap on Notifications
  4. Tap on Receive events but NOT push notifications, and NOT allow Audio and Strobe Light alarms on device. This should now have a tick next to it.

SHARING YOUR DEVICE #

You can share your camera with others. The easiest way to do this is to follow the step below. They will need to have downloaded either Hik-Connect or Hi-Look vision and have registered an account with their e-mail address.

  1. Tap on the 3 dots next to the camera name
  2. Tap on Share
  3. Tap Share with User
  4. Enter their E-mail address in the box at the top of the screen then tap next
  5. Under Device to Be Shared select what permissions they should have. Eg if you only want them to be able to view the camera live remove the tick from Remote Playback, Alarm and two way audio.
  6. Tap Ok

They should now have access to the camera via their app. If it requests a verification code please e-mail support@buildingsitecctv.com.au to get this.

Maintenance #

The Building Site CCTV system may require some maintenance from time to time to ensure its operation. This includes camera cleaning and regular testing.

We recommend you view your camera(s) at least twice a day including checking to ensure that it is recording footage. It is a good idea to check both day and night. Spiders love cameras, unfortunately cobwebs will only show up of a night which is likely when you will require reliable footage. If you do notice cobwebs across your camera lens you can clean it with a broom (ensure that the broom is clean to avoid any scratching of the camera lens). If the cobwebs are stubborn you can also use water to clean the camera lens.

Testing #

It is your responsibility to ensure that your Building Site CCTV system is operating correctly. We recommend undertaking the following steps every week.

  • Check the camera view to ensure that there is nothing which is blocking the camera or affecting the quality of the image such as lights, shadows etc. Ensure that the camera view is what you need to see. As construction progresses your camera may need to be adjusted. Please ensure that you contact us if you do make an adjustment so we can change your intrusion zones.
  • Check the playback function as mentioned above.
  • Test the intrusion zones and ensure that you are receiving notifications. Make sure that the notification zone is covering the area that you want to receive alerts for. (our systems do not alert on motion, they use what is called an intrusion zone, which is a box that is drawn around areas that your camera can see. When someone enters this zone the intrusion alert will sound, you will also receive a notification). If you would like to test your intrusion zone please call 1300 638 632 and we can place your camera on test which will allow you to trigger your intrusion alerts to test the area that it covers. Our team can also provide a screenshot of the area which your camera is covering so we can make an adjustment if need be.

Intrusion Zones #

The Building Site CCTV system uses intrusion zones which is an area of your camera view that if someone enters the camera will trigger the onsite siren and strobe, this is where you should also receive a notification of the activation. The intrusion zones is what limits the false alarms as we can set the minimum and maximum sizes that will cause the camera to alert. Intrusion detection range for our cameras is a maximum of 30m for accurate detection. Any further may result in false alarms or no alerts.

This means that everything in your cameras view will not trigger an alert. So if you camera is looking at the construction site entry gate but also covering a portion of the front path, we would set the intrusion zone to be just inside the fence line, so anyone walking up the public path wont trigger an alert, but as soon as someone enters the site it will trigger. This doesn’t mean that the camera wont record the front path, however it just wont alert. All movement that you can see on your live camera view should be recorded.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS #

Below are a list of common questions we get asked. If your question isn’t answered here, please reach out to our support team (support@buildingsitecctv.com.au) or call us 1300 368 362.

Q: I have been receiving notifications but nothing appears to be there. #

A: If you receive any false alarms please make sure you e-mail our team so we can investigate this matter. As each environment is different the cameras will need adjusting but usually we can weed out 99% of false alarms within the first week.

Q: How many people can view the live stream at the same time? #

A: Only one person can live view. Due to this Building Site CCTV recommends that only a maximum of 3 people have access to the camera at any time.

Q: How much data is supplied? (Hire Systems Only) #

A: All of our systems come with 10gb of data per month. The average system uses between 2gb and 5gb per month.

Q: Can I live stream my camera 24/7? #

A: While your camera can be viewed 24/7 it isn’t to be live streamed 24/7. There are a number of reasons for this but the most important is your data allowance. The systems are designed to be viewed but not streamed.

Q: My Camera is offline what should I do? #

A: There are a couple of reasons why your camera may be offline. Mobile reception is the most common. Our systems run off the 4G and 5G Telstra network. When an outage occurs your Building Site CCTV camera will show as being offline. While still recording it wont be accessible via the app. To check if there is an outage in your area visit https://www.telstra.com.au/outages and enter the suburb of your site.

If there is no outage then Solar can be the other issue. In the event of prolonged cloudy days the system will shut off all power once it has dropped to 10 volts to protect the battery. It will then restore at 12.7 volts. Under normal circumstances the battery will charge up within 3-4 hours of the solar panel being in direct sunlight. if the camera is down for 24 hours or more please contact our support team to investigate.

As most systems are installed prior to any building taking place, the solar panel may be being shadowed by the constructed building. If this is the case your Building Site CCTV system may require being moved to a spot which has more direct sunlight.

Q: I’m logged out of my account and can’t remember my password, do you know what it is? #

A: If your system is a purchased system or one which was hired out prior to November 2023 then no. You will need to reset your password via the Hik-Connect app. If your system is hired and has been hired after November 2023 then yes we can assist. Get in touch with our support team for assistance.

Q: We need footage from some weeks ago, can you retrieve it? #

A: Unfortunately the footage is only stored on the internal SD card (unless you have paid for cloud recording), Building Site CCTV cannot retrieve footage which has already been recorded over.

Q: We are getting false alarms, can I adjust the sensitivity from the app? #

A: Please don’t adjust any app settings as these have already been set and in doing so you risk the camera not recording anything at all. If you are receiving false alarms please e-mail support@buildingsitecctv.com.au with a screenshot of the false alarm and our team will investigate, if adjustments are needed then we can make them.

Q: Police have requested footage, can you get this for us? #

A: Due to the amount of requests we receive we cannot retrieve footage from events outside of your site. If we have to trace through hours of footage to retrieve something specific then additional charges will apply.

Q: Do you charge to relocate cameras around my site once they have been installed? #

A: Yes, if for some reason you require your Building Site CCTV system to be relocated after installation then there will be a re-install charge. We recommend that the original position of the camera is chosen to avoid any conflicts with your build including service locations.

Q: How long does the camera store footage for? #

A: Our systems are set to record on movement, therefore the amount of time the footage is stored will depend on how much movement occurs. The average is 4 days.

Q: My Camera wont load up. #

A: Try changing the viewing from HD to SD, it is likely to be a network issue. If it happens on a regular basis, contact support@buildingsitecctv.com.au and we can check with Telstra to see if there are any works happening in the area.

Q: Who should I contact for support? #

A: Always call 1300 638 632 or e-mail support@buildingsitecctv.com.au for all Building Site CCTV Support. Please don’t call any of our technicians directly as they will not always be available. Our 1300 number diverts to each team member if the office is unattended.
